Who's Who

Howard Furst, MD, is currently a partner at Deerfield Management, a healthcare investment fund based in New York City. He is primarily responsible for overseeing the firm?s private investments, which may include typical venture investments, or structured investments in public companies. Prior to joining Deerfield, Dr. Furst was the portfolio manager for the healthcare group at Magnetar Capital. Prior to that he was a Principal at Maverick Capital where he was responsible for the management of biopharmaceutical investments in the public and private markets. Prior to joining Maverick in 2000, Dr. Furst was a Fellow in the University of Pennsylvania?s Renal, Electrolyte and Hypertension Division. Before being selected for this Fellowship, he was the Senior Chief Medical Resident at New York University. Dr. Furst received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania with a dual major in Finance and Health Care Administration and an MD from the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Furst received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Perlegen Sciences. Dr. Furst is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Coalition for the Homeless in New York.

John W. Chambers joined Rodman & Renshaw, LLC in August 2006 and is the Co-Head of Investment Banking & Senior Managing Director. Previously, Mr. Chambers was a Managing Director and Senior Biotechnology Specialist at SG Cowen. Prior to joining SG Cowen in May 2005, Mr. Chambers was the Managing Director responsible for the Biotechnology Sector at Lehman Brothers from 2002-2005. From 1999-2002, Mr. Chambers spearheaded the Global Biotechnology Sector as a Managing Director at UBS. Before joining UBS, Mr. Chambers was a Senior Officer in the Healthcare Group at Salomon Smith Barney. Having begun his career in 1988; Mr. Chambers has executed a significant number of banking transactions (Private Placements, IPOs, Follow-on, Convertible and Fixed Income Offerings) as well as strategic transactions and restructurings across all healthcare sectors as well as numerous other sectors both domestically and internationally. Throughout his career, Mr. Chambers has originated and executed transactions for small and large cap life sciences companies including biotechnology, specialty pharmaceuticals, medical device and pharmaceutical companies. He has also executed transactions in the healthcare services sector for HMO?s, long term care, hospital management, pharmacy benefit management, pharmaceutical and product distribution, physician groups and healthcare information technology companies. Mr. Chambers received his MBA from Columbia Business School and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.

Ben Perkins is a Head of Healthcare Investment Banking at Pacific Growth Equities, LLC. Ben has been actively involved in the Life Sciences sector for more than 10 years working on both the buy-side and the sell-side. Since joining Pacific Growth in 1999, Ben has advised clients in raising more than $4 billion dollars through public and private equity transactions. In addition to fundraising, Ben has served as a strategic advisor to clients in the medical device, biotech, specialty pharmaceutical and diagnostics /tools sectors. Prior to Pacific Growth Equities, Ben focused on medical device, healthcare service and healthcare software/internet companies at Advest Group.

Thomas B. King has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of our board of directors since June 2003. From September 2002 to April 2003, Mr. King served as President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of Cognetix, Inc., a biopharmaceutical development company. From December 1994 to February 2001, Mr. King held various senior executive positions, including President and Chief Executive Officer from January 1997 to October 2000, and was a member of the board of directors at Anesta Corporation, a publicly traded pharmaceutical company, until it was acquired by Cephalon, Inc., a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company. Mr. King received an M.B.A. from the University of Kansas and a B.A. in chemistry from McPherson College.

Mr. Kessel co-founded Symphony in January 2002 and is widely recognized as the leader in structuring product development investments for the biopharmaceutical industry. Mr. Kessel was formerly the Managing Partner of Shearman & Sterling, with day-to-day operating responsibility for one of the largest international law firms. Mr. Kessel became a Partner at Shearman & Sterling in 1977 and managed the San Francisco office from 1979 to 1990. He received a B.A. degree with honors in Economics from the City College of New York and a J.D. degree magna cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law. Mr. Kessel is a director and Chairman of Symphony Icon, Inc., a director of Symphony Dynamo, Inc. and a member of the development committee of Symphony Evolution, Inc., Symphony Capital?s portfolio companies. In addition, Mr. Kessel is a director and Vice Chairman of the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development, and is a member of Fondation Santé and of the Biotechnology Industry Organization?s Emerging Companies Section Governing Body. Mr. Kessel has written on financing for the biotech industry for Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, Nature Biotechnology and other publications and on issues related to governance and audit committees for such publications as The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Deal, and Euromoney.

Julia P. Gregory has been Lexicon?s executive vice president and chief financial officer since February 2000. From 1998 to February 2000, Ms. Gregory served as the head of investment banking for Punk, Ziegel & Company, a specialty investment banking firm focusing on technology and healthcare and, from 1996 to February 2000, as the head of the firm?s life sciences practice. From 1980 to 1996, Ms. Gregory was an investment banker, primarily with Dillon, Read & Co., Inc., where she represented life sciences companies beginning in 1986. Ms. Gregory is a member of the board of directors and the scientific advisory board of the Estee Lauder Foundation?s Institute for the Study of Aging, Inc. and a member of the International Council for George Washington University?s Elliott School of International Affairs. She received her BA in international affairs from George Washington University and her M.BA from the Wharton School of the University.

David S. Barlow has served as the Chairman of our Board of Directors since early 2000 and as our Chief Executive Officer since January 2003. He has more than 25 years of experience in the global biopharmaceutical industry. Prior to Molecular Insight, Mr. Barlow was President, Pharmaceuticals at Sepracor Inc. During his tenure at Sepracor from 1993 to 1999, Pharmaceuticals was built into a fully integrated pharmaceutical company with a strong product pipeline, a complete research and development and United States sales and marketing capability, and several significant corporate partnerships. Before Sepracor, Mr. Barlow worked for Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, where he led the turnaround of the Armour Pharmaceutical Division. He had previously worked for Pfizer Inc and ARES-Serono in a variety of business development and marketing positions. Mr. Barlow is a Trustee of McLean Hospital, Bates College, and Newton Country Day School and on the Board of Directors of New River Pharmaceuticals. He is also a member of the President?s Council at Massachusetts General Hospital. Mr. Barlow received a B.A. from Bates College and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
